The harbour wharves around Abbotsford and Cabarita are good spots for catching jewfish as well as bream, whiting, flathead and yellowtail. But idyllic scenes like this could be a thing of the past if Canada Bay Council gets its way. It has asked NSW Maritime for a ban on fishing from ferry wharves after complaints from residents, and increasing conflict between commuters and anglers who discard rotting fish and hooks. "I think it's a damn shame that a few irresponsible people could see the kids and grandparents losing this opportunity to fish in deeper water in a harbour that's becoming richer and richer in fish every year," said Ian Kiernan, of Clean Up Australia.
